It’s the next day and the hangover still lingers. Ives did an interesting piece on hating Rossi–a pretty even-handed analysis of the situation.
My take? I, like many American soccer fans, was bitterly disappointed (although not shocked) when Rossi announced that he’d be playing for Italy. Since then, I’ve been pretty ambivalent…until last night. I have to agree with Nick–Rossi showed no class after scoring his goals. He has every right to be happy, but he has to be aware of the situation. After thrusting the dagger into the hearts of American fans–the country in which he spent over half his life–he should attempt to tone down his celebration. No need to be apologetic, but appreciate the situation and show a little respect.
