Soccernet is reporting that Kenny Cooper has been sold to 1860 Munich of the German second division. After joining FC Dallas in 2006, Cooper scored 40 goals in 93 appearances, and was voted team MVP last season. Question #1: Good move or bad move? It’s a step up from FC Dallas, but the Bundesliga II (in [...]

I’ve enjoyed Justin Rodriguez’ stories for Soccernet on the US youth system. His latest is a feature on Jack McInerney. For those of you who don’t know/remember McInerney, he is the kid who seemingly came out of nowhere to score 5 goals and 3 assists in the U-17s’ 3-game CONCACAF Championship campaign. I knew nothing [...]

Corriere di Livorno is quoting the club president as saying that the deal for Ricardo Clark is done. He claims that Clark will be staying with Houston because of their league position and their inability to cope with the loss of their star player, so he will be joining Livorno in January, during the winter [...]

The Gold Cup is over. While the final was certainly a disappointment, it’s important to recognize the purpose of this edition of the tournament–it was an opportunity to evaluate our fringe players, hopefully identifying who should (and should not) be considered for the 2010 roster. Here’s our take: HELPED THEIR CAUSES: Troy Perkins (G) - [...]

Landon Donovan Ricardo Clark seems to be Livorno’s newest target. The Houston Chronicle has confirmed with Dynamo officials that a Livorno bid is expected to be forthcoming. I like this move for Clark more than I did for Donovan. This move also seems significantly more likely (Clark doesn’t have Donovan’s pricetag, after all). If this move happens, we’ll have two [...]

I sure can pick them. Since I am originally from Omaha, NE, and I recently graduated college from Wesleyan University in central Connecticut, I haven’t had too many opportunities to watch the USA play in person over the years. In fact, I’ve had only two. The first was in 2005, when a half-strength USA lost [...]

Well, MLS announced today that they have fined Beckham $1000 for “[engaging] in conduct that can be interpreted as encouraging fans to come out of the stands.” Although the amount of the fine is pretty meaningless–obviously $1000 to Beckham is the equivalent of about 1 cent to me–it’s the message that matters. In my opinion, [...]

As reported on SBI this morning, Cody Arnoux is close to signing with Everton, becoming their second transfer of the summer (not including Jo’s loan extension). You may remember that fellow American Anton Peterlin was the first. Arnoux is a 5-foot-10 Wake Forest striker. He was the first player in school history to eclipse 40 [...]

I know this isn’t US Soccer related, but I find this situation pretty annoying. David Beckham abandoned his team for half a season. Instead of admitting he did so in order to achieve his personal goals, he tried to deflect heat by claiming all other players in his situation would have chosen the same path. [...]

Soccer By Ives is reporting that Gazzeta dello Sport is reporting that Livorno is reporting that they are planning to put in a bid for Donovan to MLS. For those unfamiliar with Livorno, they earned promotion to the Serie A last year. Although they are not historically good (before the 2004-05, they had not taken [...]
