Goal.com is reporting that Freddy Adu is looking to move to Holland. He confirmed that coach Jorge Jesus told him that he no longer factors into Benfica’s plans. Adu said that the Eredivisie is his top-choice league, and he would be content even to join a smaller club, citing Groningen and NAC, in particular.
Holland could be a good move for Adu. Some writers/fans were suggesting Belgium, Norway, and Denmark as potential destinations, and Holland is certainly a step up from those. More importantly, the Eredivisie is a league that values attacking soccer–in the 08-09 season, it had the highest goals-per-game average of any major European league. As long as Adu can find some consistent playing time, I’d call it a good move. People have started to write him off, but it’s important to remember that he’s only 20 years old–he could still wind up being one of our country’s greats, if he plays his cards right.
